This happened a long time ago. I was a teenager then. My brother and sister were very little. One evening my mom had to go out. She asked me to stay home and watch the kids.
It was an easy job. I put them to bed for the night, and decided to take a bath. There is nothing like a nice hot bath to relax in the evening!
As I was filling the bathtub, a doorbell rang. I opened the door. And who did I see but my best friend!
We hadn’t seen each other for a long time. We sat down to talk in the living room.
I was so happy to see her. I completely forgot about the bathtub and the water. When I remembered, it was too late.
The water was everywhere. The water was in the hallway. The water was in the kitchen. And it was in the bedroom… In the bedroom where my little brother and sister were sleeping.
Well, they were not sleeping anymore. They were on the floor, playing in the water. They were so happy.
My friend and I had to act quickly. We had to clean up before my mom got back… And also before the water made its way to the neighbor below us.
We used pots, pans, cups, towels, and clothes… Anything to hold and soak up water.
We moved fast. We actually had a lot of fun.
It took us about an hour to clean everything up.
The apartment looked as if nothing had happened. Actually, it looked much cleaner than before.
My mom was very pleased with the cleaning. And she was surprised that my friend helped me clean.
The story could have ended on a happy note. But after my mom came home someone rang the doorbell… It was the neighbor from the apartment below…
